Day 9 - Identify your good points

Get into the habit of noticing good things about yourself no matter how small and fleeting to start. You maybe out of the habit if seeing yourself this way but you do have the answers for all these questions:-

  1. What do you like about yourself?
    • That I am positive and try to be tolerant of other people.
  2. What positive qualities do you have?
    • I am a hard worker, I think I treat people with respect. I would like to think I contribute to a better world rather than a worse one.
  3. What have you acheived in your life?
    • I have a relationship that's lasted over twenty years. I think I've earned the love of friends and respect of peers.
  4. What challenges have you faced?
    • Generally the usual kind of disappointments - financial difficulties - the isolation of being in a minority, particularly while growing up.
  5. What talents or gifts do you have?
    • I am creative and, I think, have a musical talent. I am adaptable and am not afraid of hard work.
  6. What do other people like or value in you?
    • I'll have to wait for my 'buddy' to get back to me on that one.
  7. What qualities and values in others do you share?
    • Hope - and the knowledge that every experience is there to learn from. I also think that most of us want the same thing - a happy life, fairness, to be good to each other.
  8. What skills have you acquired?
    • Hopefully the ability to supress ego and listen to other people and try and be tolerant of their beliefs, even when I don't want to.
  9. How might another person who cared about you describe you?
    • I hope, as loving
  10. What aspects of yourself would you admire if they were aspects of someone else?
    • Hard working, conciencious, wanting to do good even when they don't always acheive it.
  11. These are the comments from my buddy (added on day 26)
    1. Straightest gay person I know, meaning:
      • What you see is what you get
      • Honest, upfront and generous
      • Not afraid to express opinions
      • Prepared to act independently - not follow others in order to be accepted
      • Don't fall in with the corporate crap just for the sake of it
    2. Always friendly, helpful
    3. Prepared to make time for people if they need it
    4. Excellent technical knowledge but don't make a big thing about it
    5. Feel able to identify with many of your views and philosphy on life (maybe it's an age thing)
Day 9 - Identify your good points
1 How did you feel? A bit exposed and maybe a tad egotistical.
2 In what way did you find the challenge useful?
Remember even if the challenge was negative this is an excellent learning for yourself.
I realise I do have positive qualities...I just need to reconcile them with finding a way to live a fullfilled life.
3 What insight did you gain? I am more comfortable listing negative qualities.
4 What did you learn about yourself? That i need to allow a little egotism to creep in if I'm ever going to get the kind of life I want.
